Brow Basics

The Saga Begins

If there’s one feature I was blessed with, it was definitely good brows. I have thick black hair that grows extremely fast, which is ideal as I never fill my brows, and shaping is rather easy. Regardless, I know a lot about what goes into a good brow. So much so that I’ve decided to write multiple articles on it. I am here to teach the CHILDREN!

For the first installment of Eyebrow Commandments, I gonna cover the three most basic forms of hair removal. I will move onto other topics such as shape, grooming, and makeup in later posts.

First up is tweezing,

simply because this is the most attainable way of removing eyebrow hair, and probably the most familiar to the majority. You can also get your eyebrows professionally tweezed at certain salons, which will allow for a pristine touch for this homey remedy. This is ideal for people with sensitive skin, and thinner hairs, and is even comprehendible enough for men!

To any male readers that feel attacked, that’s because it was an attack

While you can tweeze on your own, achieving the perfect eyebrow shape without over-plucking is much harder than you think. Unfortunately, if you tweeze your eyebrows too often you can permanently lose hair there and end up with patches in your brows.

aka DON’T! OVERPLUCK!! YOUR!!! BROWS!!!!

Second, we have waxing.

Waxing is the most popular way to get your eyebrows done, at least here in America. I have personally only done it once or twice, and while its not my preference, it’s definitely the least painful of the three, making it the perfect beginner steps.

For those who are scared of getting waxed - don’t fret. Estheticians use a thinner wax instead of the traditional, fast drying, hard wax. Most salons now offer waxes combined with soothing oils, to keep the sensitive skin around your eyes from getting irritated. So long as you go to a trusted salon, waxing your eyebrows takes only a few minutes, if not seconds.

While waxing is common, I have heard some horror stories from girls with extremely sensitive skin, especially those prone to peeling. That being said, double check that waxing is right for your skin type.

Of course I saved the best for last; coming in at number 3 we have threading!

Threading is my preferred method of keeping my eyebrows on fleek (the fuck?) Using a cotton thread, it captures and removes hair straight from the follicle.

Threading originates from the Middle East and Central Asia, so is ideal to those with thick, coarse hair. (but it welcomes all). The threading process takes a bit longer compared to say, waxing, because it a multiple step process, but it is easier on the skin.

Now, why do I, love threading so much? Well I thought you’d never ask. Threading is, in my opinion, ideal for shaping your brows. The thread allows your threading lady (yes, that is the formal professional name) to keep an eye on the symmetry between the two eyebrows, and make angles easier to distinguish. Threading offers the most immaculate, dare I say crisp, finish of the three.

Thank you all for reading! I’ll be back with the second part soon!

XO,

Julie
